Event Description

The Digital Incubation Center joins the rest of the world to celebrate and recognize “World Open Data Day “ which is on the 5thof March. 

The info session at DIC is held on the 9th March in support of this cause to encourage and promote the use of data for innovation within the startup community of Qatar.


Heather Leson is the Program Manager, Social Innovation for the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) where she creates projects and programmes for social innovation and humanitarian use. Heather is the President of the Board of Directors for Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team, a Board Member for PeaceGeeks and Infogr.am ambassador and adviser for numerous social technology start-ups including School of Data, Jump2Spot and Invstg8net. Recognized as a digital humanitarian leader, Crowdsourcing Week cited her as one of the Top 10 Canadian Experts. Heather curates numerous civil society, open source and technology workshops and is a frequent public speaker events such as IEEE Humanitarian Technology Conference, Google Big Tent, UN Human Rights Council, World Bank, OSCON, World Humanitarian Youth Summit, TedxSilkRoad, UNSpider and various Canadian government events.

Heather has over 15 years of experience in technical incident management, software life-cycle development, customer care, and Internet communications. Recently, she was awarded the People's Choice Award from Opensource.com for her writing about Digital Humanitarians.

Digital Incubation Center

Digital Incubation Center (DIC) was created to boost ICT innovation in Qatar, particularly among young people at the critical early stages of starting or growing a technology-related business.  The Center’s objectives are to:

  • Help young entrepreneurs transform innovative ideas into viable businesses.
  • Provide incubation programs that nurture and help grow new businesses by offering expertise, professional guidance, and services – including access to space, business planning, education and training, and legal advice, among others -- throughout the phases of the start-up development.
